Zusammenfassung:To describe the anatomy and biomechanics of the foot and to explain how movement and gait are integrated in the foot during walking and running. We review the anatomy and the biomechanical adaptations of the foot during walking and running. Illustrations are presented to depict these biomechanics. The human foot is an intricate mechanism that cushions the body and adapts to uneven surfaces. It provides traction for movement, awareness of joint and body position for balance, and leverage for propulsion. With an understanding of the factors discussed herein, clinicians will have more knowledge to evaluate foot problems.
