Best practice for the management of older people with dementia in the acute setting: a review of the literature

Literature review on best practice in the management of people with chronic confusion associated with dementia in acute care. The review included identifying models and principles of care for the acute setting and the evidence underlying practice. Nurses' attitudes to and knowledge of dementia, communication problems and strategies, environmental and psychological factors affecting patients' confusion and behaviour are discussed.
