Xenopus laevis (−19.3 mV ± 4.2(68)). It was also much more negative than previously reported.

2. Essentially similar membrane resistance changes were measured in the two frog species through fertilization and cleavage.

3. Small transient depolarizations only associated with the onset of the fertilization potential in
Xenopus could be prevented by hyperpolarizing the egg membrane prior to fertilization.

Rana and often accompanied by large transient spontaneous depolarizations.
