Zusammenfassung: | Studies on the demography of London in the last decade of the 17th cent are presented, based on a study of material provided by the 1694 Act (taxation of marriages, births, deaths & bachelors) & the 1692 Poll Tax Act, & of material gathered by P. E. Jones & A. V. Judges, & presented in their 'London Population in the Late Seventeenth Century' (in Economic History Review, 1935, Oct). Data are offered, in form of statistical tables on: (1) pop-a sample of 40 parishes of the city of London within the walls (absolute numbers), 1695; (2) demographic structure of that sample; (3) some soc characteristics of that sample & of 7 parishes with highest % of pop liable to surtax; (4) % distribution of the sample in (3) by marital condition; & (5) components used in estimating 'true' numbers of baptisms & burials in the city of London, 1696-1698. It is noted that this London study is part of a larger res project which may, in the future, be extended beyond London. I. Langnas. |
