Zusammenfassung: | Metoclopramide is a drug that accelerates gastric emptying. Peristaltic activity is increased and simultaneous relaxation of the pyloric canal and dilatation of the duodenal cap occur. Transit time through the small bowel is much reduced and no radiographic detail is sacrificed when the drug is used.
Administration of metoclopramide in dosages of 20 mg. intravenously has not caused serious side-effects. The authors demonstrate the aid given by this drug in barium studies of the stomach, duodenum, small and large bowel. It certainly appears that metoclopramide is by far the most useful drug available to the radiologist for modifying gastro-intestinal activity. |
