Zusammenfassung:The effect of CPIB on cholesterol and triglyceride concentration in serum was studied in rats given diets with three different fats at the level of 20 per cent. Half of the diets with the three fats, corn oil, beef tallow, and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) were supplemented with exogenous cholesterol (2 per cent) and 1:1 mixture of cholic acid-sodium cholate (1 per cent). Rats receiving food without CPIB served as control animals. CPIB failed to show serum cholesterol lowering effect on all the three dietary fats. On the contrary a marked elevation in serum cholesterol was noted in rats given diets with tallow and MCT. Lack of serum cholesterol lowering effect was further observed in the face of drastic cholesterol-cholic acid diet. Effect on serum triglyceride level was slight and ambiguous, a consistent decrease in triglycerides was noted on saturated fat diets while a notable increase was observed on corn oil diet. With exogenous cholesterol in the diet no serum triglyceride lowering effect of CPIB was observed on all the three dietary fats. The results of present work indicate that level and type of dietary fat and presence of cholesterol in the diet seem to be important factors in the serum lipid lowering effect of CPIB.
