Zusammenfassung:gamma -Aminobutyric acid is regarded as one of the major inhibitory amino acid transmitters in the mammalian brain. In most regions of the brain, GABA is associated with local inhibitory neurons and only in two regions is GABA associated with longer projections. The present article describes how interaction of binding sites for GABA, benzodiazepines (BDZ), and chloride channel blockers (picrotoxin, TBPS) results in the pharmacological activities of these compounds.
