It has been suggested recently that data on mutations in human haemoglobin is consistent with the hypothesis that evolution takes place in the direction of increasing informational entropy of DNA. Zusammenfassung:It has been suggested recently that data on mutations in human haemoglobin is consistent with the hypothesis that evolution takes place in the direction of increasing informational entropy of DNA. We argue that the mutation data sheds no light on the above hypothesis and show how the data can be understood in terms of random mutations of the bases in DNA.
