Zusammenfassung:	The focus of cancer patient care has moved from the hospital to the home as a result of shortened acute-care stays and subsequent early discharges. Thus, family members and friends frequently must assume the caregiving role. Research has provided information regarding who in the family assumes the responsibility for care of the cancer patient, the needs of these family caregivers, community resources available, and service gaps within the present health care system.
