Zusammenfassung:Until recently cohort analysis has been primarily a descriptive technique using graphical presentations to identify obvious cohort effects. The present paper discusses methodology designed to separate and statistically assess the individual influences on disease rates of birth cohort, calendar time, and age (and includes several examples of cohort analysis on both actual and hypothetical data). Analyzing a set of data for a cohort effect for the purpose of identifying point source exposures is emphasized.
