Pulmonary Lymphangiomyomatosis

To the Editor: We read with interest "Pulmonary Lymphangiomyomatosis Responsive to Progesterone" by McCarty et al. in the December 18 issue. 1 We recently wrote a paper on the same disease. 2 We disagree with their statement that ovarian ablation as a mode of therapy has not produced objective evidence of oophorectomy. Although residual disease is present on x-ray films, we have documented improvement in pulmonary-function studies. Another report on a patient treated with oophorectomy gave no objective follow-up data, although the authors stated that the patient also continued to have x-ray changes but no hypoxia or dyspnea. 3 Some women have had . . .
