Presumed Antitubercular Activity of 4-Amino-6-Hydroxy- iso -Phthalic Acid

AMONG the numerous compounds obtained by modifying the chemical molecular structure of Para -amino-salicylic acid, our attention has been directed to 4-ammo-6-hydroxy- iso -phthalic acid 1 , especially concerning the discordant opinions in respect of its antitubercular activity. In fact, while Bavin et al. 2 have found an activity corresponding to that of the para-amino-salicylic acid, according to Beyerman and Alberda 1 the compound should be 2–5 times less active than para -amino-salicylic acid.
