challenge of uncontrolled diabetes

The complexity of dealing with diabetes is well illustrated by the case study of an obese man who had been under treatment for 2 years with no results. He unwillingly entered the hospital with blood sugar of 640 mg, showed little knowledge and no interest in diet therapy, and total lack of understanding of the injection process. It finally became evident that the cause of his uncontrolled blood sugar was that the needle was not even penetrating the skin. Efforts were made to correct his fear of injection through education by a local nurse.
