Tissue reactions to sodium hypochlorite and iodine potassium iodide under clinical conditions in monkey teeth

Periapical inflammatory reaction and cementum and bone resorption and deposition in Macaca mulatta monkey teeth were studied after endodontic treatment during which irrigation was performed with 1% sodium hypochlorite or with 1% sodium hypochlorite followed by disinfection with 2% iodine potassium iodide. The authors found no evidence to show that there was an appreciable addition to the noxious effect of the operative trauma by either of the two treatments.
