Arterial pressure response to serotonin depends largely upon four main actions of the drugdirect vasoconstriction, a von Bezold-like reflex, transient ganglion blockade and peripheral inhibition of neurogenic vasoconstriction. The relative prominence of these actions differs depending upon the dose of serotonin, species tested and degree of pre-existing neurogenic vasoconstriction.
