An extra-articular operation for recurrent dislocation of the shoulder joint: Preliminary report of cases

1. 1. No operation devised for the treatment of recurrent dislocation of the shoulder Joint has been universally accepted. 2. 2. The GIassman operation exhibits certain distinct advantages. 3. 3. Thirteen such operations on eleven patients are presented with a preliminary follow-up. There were two recurrences, both following re-injury severe enough to dislocate the normal shoulder joint. One patient had persistent post-operative pain. All patients examined had normal range of motion. 4. 4. This series of cases is too small and has been followed up for an insufficient length of time to give a fair evaluation of the GIassman operation; however, the authors believe that it holds promise and is worthy of continued use.
