Zusammenfassung:The attempts of "intelligible" and "unintelligible" children at syllables beginning with r were compared to determine along what acoustic dimensions they differed. Intelligibility was found to be related to several acoustic variables which have been found to carry phonemic information in adult speech. These values were also compared with those of adult speech. These comparisons suggested that children may be trying to match the appropriate distinctive features in adult speech rather than absolute values.
