Development of the object concept as manifested in changes in the tracking behavior of infants between 7 and 20 weeks of age

The tracking behavior of infants up to 5 months of age was studied, using linear and circular trajectories, with partial occlusion of the trajectories. Results indicate that it is not until the age of about 16 weeks that infants can be said to be tracking a moving object as an object.
