American Indian adolescent socialization: a review of the literature

This review presents a broad survey of American Indian adolescent socialization research beginning with early descriptive studies and progressing to current experimental investigations. Historical periods including the early years (1920–50) and the decades from 1950 to 1970 are reviewed for the goals, methods, results and criticisms related to the research conducted during these periods. Salient and broad ranging topics for future research are identified.
