High-pressure Liquid Chromatographic determination of Propylthiouracil in Human Plasma

A high-pressure liquid chromatographic procedure was developed for the determination of propylthlouracil in plasma. The method utilizes a reversed-phase C18 chromatographic column and UV detection at 280nm. The method is sufficiently sensitive for most bioavailability and pharmacokinetic studies. Concentrations between 0.1 and 5.0 μg/ml were measured with a coefficient of variation of 0.6-5.3% for a given day. Methylthiouracil was employed as an internal standard.
