Zusammenfassung:The polyesterification reaction between dimer acid and 1,4‐Butane diol under different experimental conditions has been studied to obtain the optimum conditions for synthesizing poly(1,4‐butanediol)dimerate plasticizers. The effect of varying molar ratio and catalyst concentration on acid number, intrinsic viscosity, and molecular weight have been investigated. It has been found that p‐toluene sulfonic acid is an effective catalyst for the polyesterification reaction. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
