Zusammenfassung: | If you believe the hype, mass production and distribution are the only economically efficient ways to fill our supermarket shelves. To counter this, the authors rely on the central insight of ecological economics: if we factor in all the costs to community, healthcare and the environment from eating food that has been doused with chemicals and shipped thousands of miles, the true costs of consuming agribusiness fare are far greater than the few extra dollars we pay at the till for organic food. Add to this the gains realized by keeping money circulating in a local economy and, all things considered, organic food is less costly. |
