Mathematical simulation of unsteady separation from a circular cylinder

The problem of flow separation from a circular cylinder contains many features, and in none of the approaches known to the present authors have they all been taken into account fully. The simplest scheme is the one using the model of an ideal medium. For fixed positions of separation, it has proved very effective for constructing unsteady separation flows, including the shedding of Karman vortex streets from many bodies and plates.
