Commercial trials of multistrand rolling

The Donetsk Polytechnic Institute has conducted laboratory studies together with the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant to examine the multistrand rolling of semifinished section in two-groove passes employing a rhombic square system. The essence of the method is the rolling of a flat starting piece in a two-groove roughing pass to form a bloom with two strands in the form of a rhombus connected by bridges of metal in the direction of the lesser axes; this semi-finished product is separated when the squares are subsequently formed simultaneously. A regression equation was obtained to describe the deformation of the metal and filling of the passes in relation to the parameters of the starting piece and the form and dimensions of the bridge.
