Neuronal localisation of immunoreactive enkephalin and β-endorphin in the earthworm

SINCE the report by Simantov et al. 1 invertebrates have been thought to lack endogenous opiates and opiate receptors. Zusammenfassung:SINCE the report by Simantov et al. 1 invertebrates have been thought to lack endogenous opiates and opiate receptors. As we have previously observed peptidergic neurones containing immunoreactive pancreatic polypeptide or vasoactive intestinal peptide in the earthworm 2 , we decided to search for, and report here our finding of, nerves storing immunoreactive enkephalin or β -endorphin in this species.
