Stochastic model of constitutive protein levels in growing and dividing bacterial cells

A stochastic model is proposed for predicting the distribution of protein molecules among the members of a genetically homogeneous, steady state bacterial population. The model assumes that protein production and degradation as well as the partitioning of protein molecules to daughter cells at the time of cell division are random. The model is solved exactly using generating functions.
