Zusammenfassung:The complexity created by applying the inhomogeneous deformation concept to the rolling process has been so overwhelming that, up to date, it was used only for the modeling of the static process. In order to study the chatter phenomena in rolling, however, a rolling process model with time-varying conditions is required. A new dynamic rolling process model that utilizes the inhomogeneous deformation concept and is capable of accounting for the influence of roll movements is presented in this paper. Finally, a brief discussion regarding the coupling of a suitable unsteady lubrication model, once developed, to the proposed inhomogeneous process model is given.
