Kinetics of Compounds in Thermodynamic Potential Gradients

The behaviour of compounds which are exposed to various thermodynamic potential gradients is investigated. Phenomenological concepts are introduced and experimentally verified with oxides and sulfides. The following problems are discussed: (a) Formation of double oxides (spinel formation) and the functioning of an oxygen pump. (b) Defect relaxation processes and the establishment of local equilibrium during solid state reactions (interdiffusion NiO-CoO). (c) The role of interface kinetics in heterogeneous solid state reactions and the in-situ determination of chemical component potential during alpha - beta -Ag sub(2)S phase transformation.
