Serviceability Design of Continuous Prestressed Concrete Structures

Concrete structures reinforced with or without prestressing are designed to satisfy the requirements of safety against failure and serviceability. Safety against failure can be assessed by estimating the ultimate load that can be carried by the structure. This check is relatively simple and is beyond the scope of this paper. But to ensure the service-ability requirements, it is essential to predict the stresses and deformations of the structure under service load conditions.
