Zusammenfassung: | Classical Schlichting's solutions for a steady laminar round or planar jet in a homogeneous fluid demonstrate that a longitudinal velocity (U sub(0)) on the jet axis depends on distance (x) from the jet origin as U sub(0) similar to x super(-1) (round jet) and as U sub(0) similar to x super(-1/3) (planar jet). The question arises whether the horizontal steady jet in a density stratified fluid (where the gravity suppresses the vertical motion and the flow is quasi-planar) will be similar to the round jet or to the planar one? To answer this question we have done some experiments and a theoretical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations. |
