Zusammenfassung: | The article gives an overview on some semantic features of the category of the Romanian verbs of speaking (verba dicendi), derived from onomatopoeias that express sounds specific to animal world (animals & birds), used in figurative sense. The verbs derived from animals' sounds usually offer information about the act of speaking, ie., inflexion, affect, distinctness, loudness, social perspective (usually, deprecatory use) etc. The verbs derived from onomatopoeias that express birds' sounds usually indicate the phatic character of the communicative activity, the "chatting."
