Zusammenfassung: | The behavior of the gravitational potential outside the region where the main spiral arms of galaxies are located is investigated. The characteristic features of this behavior include nearly circular extensions of the main arms, which typically have an angular extent of 90DG. It is natural to interpret these quarter-turn spirals as the response of the galactic disk to the gravitational potential of the main spiral arms. The theoretical models are supported by observational data for the brightness distributions in both normal (NGC 3631) and barred (NGC 1365) galaxies. |
