The effect of solution heat treatment on a single-crystal Ni-based superalloy

The modified heat treatment proved to be insufficient to produce an acceptable homogeneous microstructure in CMSX-4. A high degree of retained segregation persists after the PWA 1480 heat treatment of CMSX-4. Upon exposure to 1,000deg C for 1,000 hours, the modified samples resembled the as-cast mic...

Zusammenfassung:The modified heat treatment proved to be insufficient to produce an acceptable homogeneous microstructure in CMSX-4. A high degree of retained segregation persists after the PWA 1480 heat treatment of CMSX-4. Upon exposure to 1,000deg C for 1,000 hours, the modified samples resembled the as-cast microstructure more than the microstructure produced by the standard solution heat treatment. Creep testing produced similar results.
