Zusammenfassung:Fenchel relates the studies of Whitaker et al and Papke et al on thermophilic prokaryotes from geothermal springs. Upon sequencing nine protein-coding loci, it was found that genetic distances between populations increased proportionally with geographic distance. Although the genetic distances are slight, results indicate that there is not a continuous rapid exchange of cells between the remote habitat patches.
