Zusammenfassung:Bent-up bars are a good theoretical solution to provide shear strength in slabs and beams: they offer optimal use of reinforcing steel in that they act simultaneously as flexural and shear reinforcement. The shear capacities of the stirrups along the shear-critical section at d/2 from the column are now calculated by multiplying the shear reinforcement ratio ρ^sub v^ by the concrete area on top of the slab defined by a 45-degree truncated pyramid outside the column, and the yield strength of the stirrups f^sub y^.
