Development and Cooperation

In this multi-thematic dossier of papers on Benedict XVI's encyclical, Caritas in veritate (CiV), it is clear that development occupies a privileged place -- not only, not even primarily, economic development, but social development in the sense of integral human development (ie, development of all peoples). It could not be otherwise in view of the fact that CiV commemorates the anniversary of Populorum Progressio (The Development of Peoples). This paper is articulated in two parts: the overall concept of development, & the notion of cooperation in development. The first is more important in that it positions the entire ambit of the economic within a framework of the philosophical & the teleological & seeks to cover all the themes of the encyclical. The second is more concrete & instrumental, proffering recommendations for what is called "the new architecture of development & cooperation.". Adapted from the source document.
