Zusammenfassung: | Introduction to a special section focusing on research presented at the May 2010 Hrant Dink Memorial Workshop , "Gender, Ethnicity, and the Nation-State: Anatolia and its Neighboring Regions in the Twentieth Century." In the article the authors contextualize the five included articles and commentary by exploring the roles of gender and ethnicity in nation-state development and nationalist identity. Specific topics addressed include the documentation of women in Turkish history and the use of gender as an "analytic category." When gender is used as an analytic category, all aspects of life and politics, rather than just those associated with women and femininity, are viewed from a gender perspective.
