Hematogenous Serratia marcescens osteomyelitis of the carpal scaphoid from an indwelling radial artery catheter

An infected radial artery catheter site led to osteomyelitis of the carpal scaphoid. The organism was Serratia marcescens, and it was presumably introduced into the bone by the hematogenous route. Excision of the scaphoid and appropriate antibiotic therapy resulted in cure.
