Pasteurella Multocida in Pigs: The Serotypes and the Assessment of their Virulence in Mice

This paper presents a study on the virulence in mice of 20 Pasteurella multocida strains isolated from pigs in Malaysia. When serotyped they were found to belong to Carter’s types A (20%), B (35%) and D (45%). Of these, type B was highly virulent and type A moderately virulent, the virulence of type...

Zusammenfassung:This paper presents a study on the virulence in mice of 20 Pasteurella multocida strains isolated from pigs in Malaysia. When serotyped they were found to belong to Carter’s types A (20%), B (35%) and D (45%). Of these, type B was highly virulent and type A moderately virulent, the virulence of type D was the lowest and varied widely. There was no correlation between the pathogenicity for mice and the colony characteristics or the organ of isolation. The virulence depended on the serotypes.
