In the Sounding Board article in the April 29 issue,* Smith and Gerard incorrectly stated the position of the Association of American Medical Colleges regarding the National Health Service Corps Scholarship (NHSC) program.
The authors indicate that the Association was opposed to the NHSC program during its review by Congress in the spring and summer of 1981, because it would divert federal dollars from the National Institutes of Health.
