Prostaglandin-norepinephrine interaction in guinea pig longitudinal muscle

Zusammenfassung:Norepinephrine block of electrically induced contractions of the guinea pig longitudinal muscle-myenteric plexus preparation reverses spontaneously. PGE 1 or E 2 fails to alter rate of reversal in the presence of ascorbic acid but increases the rate in its absence. Using spectrophotometry, it could be demonstrated that PGE 1 or E 2 significantly increases the rate of autoxidation of norepinephrine, thereby accounting for the pharmacological interaction observed.
