Magnitude scaling of displacement and velocity of tactile stimuli applied to the human hand

The method of absolute judgment was used by 5 human observers to scale tactile stimulus velocity at each of two final displacement depths and to scale displacement depth at each of two onset velocities. Velocity scaling tended to be more reliable at greater displacement depths (800 vs 200 μm), and d...

Zusammenfassung:The method of absolute judgment was used by 5 human observers to scale tactile stimulus velocity at each of two final displacement depths and to scale displacement depth at each of two onset velocities. Velocity scaling tended to be more reliable at greater displacement depths (800 vs 200 μm), and displacement scaling more reliable at faster velocities (100 μm/ms vs 1 μm/ms). Absolute judgments of displacement depth were affected by displacement velocity, but absolute judgments of velocity were unaffected by final displacement depth.
