Zusammenfassung:	The ultrastructural composition of hepatocytes was studied in 9 highyielding dairy cows sampled at 8 weeks before, and 1 week and 8 weeks after calving. The cows were fed 3 isocaloric, isonitrogenous diets but with the protein supplied in 3 different forms. Diet had little effect on liver cell structure but the onset of lactation was accompanied by a hypertrophy of cellular organelles, particularly mitochondria, peroxisomes and rough endoplasmic reticulum.
