Zusammenfassung:A survey of an 8-year period in which 37 cases of pelvic abscess occurred in a Nigerian hospital department of obstetrics and gynecology is presented. All 37 women were surgically treated; one death occurred post-operatively. A regimen of 400 mg of metroni-dazole three times daily combined with appropriate antibiotics is recommended as the treatment of choice, even where laboratory confirmation of anaerobic involvement is unavailable.
