Zusammenfassung: | It is noted that N. Chomsky's & J. Piaget's theories of child lang development failed to account for the process of progressive cognitive structuration present in the child's development of grammar. Studies on child grammar are reviewed & five major research areas are noted: (1) development of the semantic system, (2) development of surface units of linguistic expression, (3) mapping between form & meaning, (4) online processing of the mapping, & (5) revision & reorganization of the linguistic system.
