Assessment of a car conversion to ease access for wheelchair users

A prototype car conversion with a sliding front seat and a hydraulic wheelchair hoist has been assessed. It is designed to increase the independence of wheelchair users by significantly reducing the effort necessary for loading the wheelchair and reaching the driving seat. The conversion can be of significant benefit to those who have some use of their arms and trunk, but are not strong enough to use unmodified production cars.
