Zusammenfassung: | Spontaneous splenic rupture is a well-known complication of infectious mononucleosis. The absence of an acute traumatic episode initiating this syndrome and the lack of specific clinical and radiological findings make splenic rupture a potentially difficult diagnosis. The new imaging modalities of splenic scintigraphy and ultrasound may be helpful in following patients at risk to spontaneous rupture. Ultrasound, as illustrated by the following case history, is an ideal method for evaluating occult splenic rupture. It is noninvasive, produces no radiation exposure, and can be rapidly performed. |
