Incidence of cell clusters in 318 cultured muscle biopsies from duchenne dystrophy, normal, and other neuromuscular disorders

Careful reading of a recent report in this journal ( M. S. Ecob-Johnston and A. E. Brown, 1981, Exp. Neurol. 71: 390–397) of cell clusters in cultures from patients with various neuromuscular disorders reveals basic agreement with our own findings. We also present our experience of culturing muscle from 245 patients with other neuromuscular conditions and 30 normal controls and indicate some possible causes for the differing results obtained by the authors of that report in their cultures of 9 normal and 25 biopsies from patients with other neuromuscular diseases.
