Zusammenfassung:	The role of prolactin was explored in the Harderian gland of chicks by histological and karyodynamic investigations. Intramuscular injection of ovine prolactin (10 IU daily for 10 days) induced hyperplasia and hypertrophy in this gland. In addition prolactin possibly increased the secretory activity of the gland. The findings suggest that prolactin stimulates both mitosis and secretory activity in the Harderian gland of chicks.
