Zusammenfassung:Using the activity-dependent 2-[$^{14}$C]deoxy-D-glucose technique, we have demonstrated a columnar organization of spatial frequency-specific sensitivity in striate cortex. Cats viewing patterns containing a single spatial frequency presented at all orientations show columns of increased deoxyglucose uptake extending through all cortical layers. A control stimulus containing all spatial frequencies presented at all orientations produces no columnar density differences within the striate cortex.
